In January 2008, in order to establish corporate responsibility in our supply chain, O2 incorporated ecological and ethical procurement guidelines into the purchasing process. These guidelines are based on the internationally approved standards of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organisation conventions. In combination with other measures, corporate responsibility standards should be applied to all procurements of products and services by O2.

We regularly use the so-called Reflect survey to measure satisfaction among our employees so that we know exactly where and how we need to improve. Because we want to provide an attractive working environment in which our staff feel inspired to do their best. The Reflect findings for 2007 were revealed within the company in February 2008. The comparatively poor score of 73 out of 100 points - in 2006 it was 78 points - moved us to invest heavily in staff satisfaction during the year. With success: In 2008 we improved significantly with 79 points.

We are sending the robots into retirement: the interactive voice response system on the prepaid and postpaid customer hotlines has been switched off by O2 since April 2008. Instead, customer service staff now deal directly in person with our customers' requests and enquiries. They can now ascertain customers' concerns straightaway and deal with them promptly or connect them to the right person. Although the number of calls to our hotline has risen by three percent since removing the voice response system, we have been able to deal with a larger proportion of the calls within 20 seconds than in 2007 - thanks to our committed and efficient employees.

O2 draws online discussion on youth and data protection to a conclusion
From 1 September to 10 October 2008 we ran a debate on the theme »Chatrooms, Communities & Co.: How safe are children and young people?« on »www.diskutiere.de«. Over 1,500 parents, educators, experts, young people, O2 employees and interested persons visited the site. The outcome: Parents in particular frequently feel overwhelmed by the range and possibilities of new media. Young people feel that their mistrust often prevents them from making use of helpful sources of information. Open dialogue enables O2 to identify relevant stakeholders and their requirements of the company, and to take these into consideration in future decisions and actions.
